What is an embryoscope?

Embryoscope is the most recent technology used to identify the most viable and best-quality embryo for embryo transfer. This is also crucial in enhancing pregnancy rates in assisted reproductive technology. We, at PFRC, are one of the 125 hospitals in the world that offer this cutting-edge IVF procedure.

The embryoscope is an IVF incubator with an in-built camera that allows for automated time-lapse imaging of fertilized eggs. These eggs are kept in a safe incubator environment from fertilization until embryo transfer.

Why we use embryoscope to select the best embryos

Current IVF procedures’ success rates are limited due to the inability to identify a viable embryo for embryo transfer. Most fertility clinics typically select a healthy embryo for transfer based on its morphological appearance at a few discrete time points during development.

However, embryo development is an extremely dynamic process in which important stages might go unobserved between examinations. This technology solves the shortcomings of current IVF techniques and has eventually increased success rates by selecting the best embryos for transfer.

Conventional embryo culture vs embryoscope

Conventional embryo culture Embryoscope
The embryos are tested only every 16-18 hours, 65-68 hours, and then on day 5.
The images of embryos are captured every 20 minutes and compiled into time-lapse imaging for observation.
Might cause the embryologists to miss vital details that may affect the development of the embryo.
Helps identify important parameters or defects that might have been missed otherwise.
The embryos must also be taken out of the incubator every time they are tested for development. This may affect the embryo’s development.
Embryos are observed inside the incubator, thus avoiding exposure to external temperatures.

Embryoscope increases the IVF success rates by up to 75% and decreases miscarriage rates by 8-10%.

Embryoscope procedure we follow

Normally, embryos are tested at specific time periods, and increasing the number of assessments provides additional information and aids in scoring the embryos. Top-scoring embryos are the best embryos, and transferring these embryos into the uterus results in extraordinary pregnancy rates.

Early division to the 2-cell stage is examined at 25-27 hours after the egg is inseminated with the sperm. Early division results in high pregnancy rates.

Cell counts are examined after 62 hours. The duration and timing of cell division significantly influence pregnancy rates, and prolonged duration is harmful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Studies have proven that studying embryos through an embryoscope and selecting the best embryos has increased pregnancy rates by about 15%. It is especially beneficial for couples with repeated miscarriages and for those using frozen eggs or sperm.

With the EmbryoScope, infertility specialists can monitor the development of fertilized eggs around the clock without having to take them out of their incubators. This lets the doctor and the patient see how the baby is growing. It has made it easier for many people to achieve a successful pregnancy.
