Blastocyst Transfer
Previously, most IVF embryos were transferred on day three of development, known as the cleavage stage. A blastocyst is an embryo that has reached the fifth day of development.
This extended culture time allows us to select embryos with the highest chances of pregnancy. Culturing and transferring blastocysts on day five of development allows for fewer embryo transfers while retaining a high pregnancy rate.
Typically, just two blastocyst-stage embryos are transferred into the uterus, lowering the chances of multiple pregnancies or premature labour.
So what exactly is a blastocyst?
Blastocyst is when a fertilized egg (Embryo) reaches five days of development. Because of the extended culture time, the selected embryo has a high conception rate.
Who can benefit from blastocyst culture?
Women with at least a few high-quality embryos on day 3 after egg collection will be eligible for blastocyst transfer.
Couples who have had multiple failed IVF cycles are also candidates for blastocyst transfer.
For young ladies with a favorable prognosis. It is, nonetheless, appropriate for women of all ages.
Women over the age of 40, in particular, can benefit, and pregnancy rates are high if their embryos are compatible with this surgery.
How we choose the best embryos for embryo transfer
- Slow and poor embryos stop developing, and good-quality embryos progress to the day 5 blastocyst stage. This gives us a chance to select the best embryos for transfer.
- To achieve pregnancy, the best two of all embryos are transferred into the uterus. The fact that we specialize in blastocyst transfer with a new specialized embryo scope accounts for 70-80% of our pregnancy rate at Prashanth Fertility Research Centre.
